The GMAT test taker is able to view an Unofficial Score Report which shows the Quantitative, Verbal and Total scores from the exam immediately after completing the GMAT. The Unofficial Score Report does not contain a score for the Analytical Writing Assessment, the only section of the GMAT which is not immediately scored upon completion of the exam. The Official Score Report, which shows the Quantitative, Verbal and Total scores in addition to scores for the Analytical Writing Assessment, is made available to the GMAT test taker online and sent to graduate programs designated by the GMAT test taker to receive the report within 20 days after the GMAT test appointment.
Upon completion of the GMAT, a screen appears which asks if the GMAT test taker wishes to report or cancel the score from the GMAT sitting. GMAT scores cannot be cancelled after such time as the test taker has chosen to report the scores.
If the GMAT test taker chooses to report the score, the GMAT test taker will then be able to view an Unofficial Score Report which shows the Quantitative, Verbal and Total scores from the exam. The Unofficial Score Report does not contain a score for the Analytical Writing Assessment, the only section of the GMAT which is not immediately scored upon completion of the exam. Test centers generally provide a printed Unofficial GMAT Score Report to the GMAT test taker upon checking out of the test center.
An Official Score Report shows the Quantitative, Verbal and Total scores in addition to scores for the Analytical Writing Assessment from the exam. The Official Score Report is made available to the GMAT test taker online and sent to graduate programs designated by the GMAT test taker to receive the report within 20 days after the GMAT test appointment.
GMAT test takers that provide a valid email address when registering for the GMAT receive email notification of the availability of the Official Score Report. The Official Score Report may then be accessed by the GMAT test taker via a security coded internet address provided in the email notification. Upon accessing this address, the GMAT test taker is required to enter an Authentication Code documented on the Unofficial Score Report which the GMAT test taker receives at the test center upon completing the GMAT.
Official Score Reports contain scores from all GMAT exams taken in the five years prior to the report date. Official Score Reports also contain the essays submitted during the Analytical Writing Assessment section of the most recently taken GMAT exam.
The Official Score Report sent to graduate programs designated by the GMAT test taker contains a copy of the digital photograph taken at the test center in cases where the recipient graduate program has requested to receive reports with photographs. The Official Score Report also may contain background information which is self reported by the GMAT test taker during registration for the GMAT or prior to beginning the GMAT, including telephone number, undergraduate educational institution, grade point average, major, graduate date, intended graduate study and the highest level of education attained to date.
The GMAT test registration fee includes the sending of a GMAT score report to up to five graduate programs of the test taker's choosing. To be included within the GMAT test registration fee, such graduate programs to receive the GMAT score report must be selected on test day prior to beginning the GMAT. The test taker is unable to change or delete any graduate program from the list to receive a GMAT score report after the initial selection is made prior to beginning the GMAT.
For an additional fee for each requested score report, the GMAT test taker may choose to send more than the five score reports included in the GMAT test registration fee. The GMAT test taker also may choose after test day to send score reports to graduate programs not initially selected on test day. Additional score reports may be most easily ordered online using a credit card at www.mba.com. GMAT test takers also may order additional score reports via phone, fax or postal mail.
Score reports contain scores from all GMAT exams taken in the five years prior to the report date. For an additional fee, a GMAT test taker may request a special report containing scores from all GMAT exams taken between five and ten years prior to the report date; however, such special reports are unavailable for any GMAT test taker that has taken the GMAT within five years of such request. Scores of GMAT exams which are between five and ten years are considered outdated and sometimes pose interpretation problems; as such, reports which contain results of such GMAT exams contain a statement highlighting the outdated nature of such scores. Score reports of any GMAT exams taken more than ten years prior to the report date are unavailable, as scores from GMAT exams taken more than 10 years ago are routinely destroyed.
